RVT stands for Registered Veterinary Technician.  This is a nationally recognized license similar to a Registered Nurse.  An RVT receives 2 years of post-secondary education specializing in animal diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.  The role of an RVT is to assist the Veterinarian by providing technical support and nursing care to our animal patients. RVT’s have received specialized training that includes the following areas of patient care:

Induction and maintenance of anesthesia
Performing ancillary diagnostic tests such as processing blood work, performing urinalysis and running fecal analyses
Dental scaling and polishing
Restraint and collection of samples for analysis
Monitoring status and comfort of patients
Specialized techniques for providing nutritional support
Taking and developing digital radiographs
Assisting in surgery
Understanding and implementing infectious disease control and safety protocols
Competence in venipuncture and catheter placement
An understanding of basic physiology which allows them to alert our doctors of subtle changes in patient status based on physical and laboratory exam findings

We are proud of the professionalism and high quality of patient care provided by our veterinary technicians - come in and see us, we are sure that you will agree.
