Dr. Bela Kisamov

Dr. Bela Kisamov received her Zoology B.S at San Francisco State University, then went on to get her veterinary license through Ross University, on the island of St. Kitts, in the Caribbean. She finished her clinical year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before returning to the Bay Area to start her veterinary career.

She started her work in private practice. Then, as a relief veterinarian around the Bay Area, she discovered her passion for Shelter Medicine. She has been a Medical Director at Berkeley Humane and the first Chief of Shelter Medicine at Contra Costa Animal Services. She has found a nice balance in working with Hayward Animal Services and Eden Pet Hospital where she can care for both the housed and unhoused pets in the local area.

In her spare time, Dr. Bela Kisamov volunteers with Lindsay Wildlife Experience, nature journals with a global community of nature observers and admirers, and uses her California Naturalist certification to help with local habitat restoration projects and local ecology science communication efforts. She loves traveling to discover nature around the world, hiking, biking, reading, and absorbing the great outdoors, especially with her partner, Josh, and their fur kids, Olive (cat, does not hike/travel) and Autumn (dog, who does).
